This is a pretty typical location, attached to the steering column with a large hose clamp. Other people have inserted the tach into the a/c register to the left of the steering wheel, if you don't have a/c.

clhart426,

I bought a universal mounting kit by Scoshe from Walmart, and I had to cut out part of the metal bracket(the mounting holes for the old-style radio) so it would fit.

My truck didn't come with air, so I took the plastic from a dash that had air, removed the vent and slid a 3" tach in there. It fits like a glove, I'll take a few pictures in a few minutes.

Here is mine. My dash is covered so I wasn't worried too much about drilling into it.

I would love to see a pic of the tac mounted flush in the dash bezel above the headlight switch. I think that would look pretty nice there.

Fairly typical I guess, tach on one side and shift light on the other:

funny....my dad laughed at me when i said i was going to get a tach with a shift light for my truck, bc "auto transmissions shift when they're ready, you dont need a light to tell you when its going to!"
