03-6L-X, sounds like you have a restriction in your fuel line, check fuel filter first for trash, rust then gas cap to make sure it's not pulling a vacum on your tank. The guys here will help you out. They have give me some good ideas on my problem..
OK, I think I'm getting the jist of it. I'm going to re check my float level, then see about an aluminum plate to go between my intake and bakelite? PCV plate. Question.. Will a Holley 2 bl be the same mount? I'm thinking they will. If so Advance,NAPA and so on will have one. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. I will check and clean the PCV spacer then install aluminum plate. It's gotta be fixed!! It's embarrassing to try starting it when I'm at town!!
I dont want to be a "nittering neighbob" (wasnt that Spiro Angew's saying), but dont think the aluminum spacer will yield any results. I guess maybe it would raise the carb a little from the heated intake, but then the aluminum is such a great heat conductor, dont think it will help.
Just try bending the needle tab slightly so the end of the float is about 1/16 - 1/8 in. lower. If we are right, flooding at shutoff wont happen even with heat soak (which to some degree cant be helped).
Once I shot the temp of my carb with engine running and it was in the 110 degree range. Very soon after shutting off warmed up engine it rose to 155.
Just got home, going to adjust the float after supper/dinner. picked up a metal gasket for $4 just in case.46y ,if the float adj. fixes it feel free to be the nitteringest neighbob you want to be...LOL

Gas cap is not "tight", is loose (slight rock/rattle). Fuel filter just replaced. Do not have "hard" (Metal) line going all the way to the inside of the pump (last 8") outside of the pump to carb is all rubber fuel line.
On a stock setup, there is no reason to add an aluminum spacer. The fiber one worked fine for the engineers at Ford when these trucks were new. No reason it shouldn't work today.
