65 352 valve cover color differences

There is the gold and then there's the yellow/beige. I believe both to be correct for 65s. Any thoughts guys??

Gold...beige...LOL...reminds me of my refer...bland color for detail stuff on cars...Gold has a nice kick to the under hood look...stands out in a sweet way.

I've seen quite a few with the beige .The one in the pic is original from the looks of it.Still has the yellow paint marks on the intake. The truck it's out of has 105,000 miles on it.

The ONLY potential reason that they could be beige and correct would be if cars used beige as their distinguishing color for engine ID. I recall Bill saying that in 1966 ALL engines went Ford corporate blue on the valve covers...engines too, but to keep it simple Im only mentioning the tins

BTW, what color is the block on the engine with the beige valve covers??? How many engine mount holes on the block???

This only applies to 1958/64 FE engines, which were only installed in Passenger Cars.

All: 1965/71 Passenger Car & 1965/76 F100/350 FE engines have 4 bolt holes for the engine mounts.

1965/66 Passenger Cars & F100/350 valve covers are pent roof shaped and are plain without any lettering.

1965 F100/350: The 352 engine is painted black w/Gold valve covers.

The gold paint tended to fade after a while, turning the covers from bright gold to a flatish beige.

1965 Galaxie/LTD: The 352 engine is painted black w/Blue valve covers.

Beginning in 1966, all Ford I-6 & V8 engines were painted Ford Corporate Blue, including the valve covers.

1967 was the first year the (Ford) valve covers were marked Powered by Ford.

1967/68 Mercury 390/410/428 valve covers are marked Powered by Mercury.

Thanks for the correction on the block differences Bill...Ive seen some NASTY engines...one that had a TON of brambles growing every which way around the engine...the valve covers were weak too...hood had been off for years...lotta moss too...what there was left though of the valve covers was positively gold in color though.

Cuz...of the el cheapo chrome plating, which prolly had zero coats of copper. They just chrome plated the bare steel.

The more coats of copper, the more durable the chrome finish...and the higher the price.

It's a darn shame that Vic put his name on something that sorry. Nice & affordable but no last. I have a set of factory chrome pents, but don't know if they hold up any better.

My guess is if they were factory ones...as I know there was an FE engine dress up kits offered and a part of some cars depending on the engine...think 7 Litre Galaxie then my hunch would be those would have a fair amount of copper in the plating process...

Mine are beige. This is the first time I've seen another set in that color. Everyone thinks I'm nuts when I say mine are original and not gold.

I have a pair of pent-roof chrome rocker arm covers with the attached 'sparkplug wire loom holder clip' on their top center, which makes me think they were FoMoCo-issued.
They were on my F100 FE engine when I bought the truck back in '81 and they are still rust-free.

CS65 -- I believe the FE dress up kit was popular with Thunderbird buyers/owners too.....

My original 43 thousand mile 65 has the gold valve covers with the black engine. All the brochures I have seen for Ford trucks of the 65 vintage show gold on black. No place in any literature have I seen beige colored rocker box covers. I have also never seen any beige paint for the 65, only the gold
