ok so I think I have gotten myself up to speed here. the icp is bouncing between 350to 650 or some nuber close to that in a rymthic pattern?
If this is the case as I understand then I think I know whats going on. first you need to remove the ipr valve and see if the screen is damaged. if so you can try and replace it but it may just be causal damage casued by the pump.
the pump is a 2 pistion type pump, so every time the good piston hits pressure would go up every time the bas piston hits the pressure will drop. giving you this pattern.
if you find that you need a pump I think the company that makes em for the 7.3 is now got an early style 6.0 pump out. and I think it was cheeper. I wanna say its the adrinelan pump.
also Mark if the fan clutch wires get cut they like to blow fuse f2-22 20amp, this is the
12v supply circuit for the for all the 12v silenoids.
So air in the fuel is not an issue?? When the secondary fuek filter housing is filling up (without the filter in place) there is a LOT of tiny air bubbles being introduced with the fuel. The bouncing of pressure reading from the ICP is not a rapid one, the pressure fluctuates slowly. Up, down and up again in about 10 seconds.. Well... maybe not so slow, but it didn't seem "fast". Still a piston problem?
do a ballon test on the fuel system. very easy and the person that said you need a scan tool to find it is WRONG.
on do the fuel line to each head at the fuel filter housing. place a ballon over the end of each line and crank the engine over. if the ballon inflates then you have exhaust gas in the fuel rail and will also now what side its on.
if you have that then remove the glowplugs on that bank. crank engine over and see if the ballon still inflates. if so suspect very loose injector. and remove valve cover and check all injectors are tight.
if the pluse is gone intstall one glowplug at a time till the pluse returns. the glowplug that is installed that make the pluse come back is the effected injector.
It does, however when I cranked the engine with the key off (yellow/blue wire touched to battery) I got no air in the fuel filter housing. Only have air when fuel pump runs. Can this air cause a no start/run situation? I'm wondering if I may just have a cracked lid or bad o-ring on the HFCM?
got it. no dripping. But the air is bad enought that it actually foams the fuel to some degree. I'll do the balloon test tomorrow. Thanks again cheezit!
I have seen some leaks that let air in that did not drip. The suction line is under a negative pressure. There have been posts from people with poorly installed o-rings that caused hard start issues. It is easy enough to check.
