When I got the truck there was no line on the EGR... I put it on with the EGR on it last night and it ran crappy, I am going to totaly block off the EGR valve today and see if it helps any. When I got the truck it ran fine!, untill I drove it up here (which is a 4 hr drive), It made it most of the 4 hrs and then I lost all power, I think that problem was from extreme cold and wind easily below
-20 F. And I had an almost dead battery. So we replaced the battery and went on our way and she ran fine untill the gas gage got stuck and read 1/4 tank and I ran out of gas, siting there in the freezing cold for 2 hrs trying to figure out what was wrong, it didnt have an inline filter on the gasline so I took off the factory filter that screws into the carb and sure enough it was pluged from sucking up crap from the bottom of the tank, filled her up and drove home and that is when she started acting up. I came outside and started her up about.... 3 days after the drive up, and she ran ok... took a while to warm up, and then pop, my thermostat got stuck and then got un-stuck and water went everywhere,(sprayed out of the small hole, and the over flow (no hose on it) in the radiator) fixed that problem. And now I have this one. No I have not rebuilt the carb, the PO rebuilt it, which I now know is true because when I took off the carb to clean and inspect it I looked at the float and it is brand new. I read somwhere that if the float is out of adjustment that could cause my problem?
Did you clean anything when it started running crappy? I read that your pickup has been sitting for a while and you found evidence of dirt in the tank.
I would clean the tank out really good. And blow the fuel line out with air [be careful while doing this], change filter. Ya can install a see-through fuel filter temporarily to see how the fuel is flowing.
Is the carb rebuilt right? The previous owner may put in wrong jets, reversed the jets, float set too high or low.....etc.
I cleaned out the EGR valve, and yes I know I am planing on flushing out the tank 2-3 times. My EGR is not hooked up to anything, I was thinking of just blocking it off. If I block it off do I have to compensate for anything? maybe adjust somthing to compensate for it? I know I have to plug the hose that useto go to it, but since there never was a hose on it I guess I dont have to. If I hook up my vacuum guage to my vacuum tree comeing out of my intake what is it suposed to read? or can I even hook it up to the Vacuum tree? I was thinking check that to see if maybe my intake gaskets are leaking, because when the truck was siting there were puddles of water and pineneedles and moss all over the inside of the engine compartment.
