Hey guys, I'm trying to pull my upper intake of my 98 Ranger 4.0l 4x4 so i can replace my valve cover and plenum gaskets. I have a nasty oil leak that smells things up from oil on the exhaust and I keep getting the 171 and or 174 codes every few hundred miles. I cant seem to pull the plenum up off the large egr line, how do I get the egr to come off so I can pull the plenum up???
The problem with twisting is the studs for the plenum limit movement to about half an inch. I guess I'll try to remove the studs first ti see if that gives me some free play, thanx
You are not gonna believe this, but I finally got the plenum off by using PB BLASTER squirting it at the EGR in the plenum , and rocking, pulling swearing, misc. But the part you wont believe is... there was NO plenum gasket in there! Gee, I wonder if that might cause an air leak and set off a code? Somebody must have taken the plenum off and put it on without a gasket. I've only owned the truck for a month or so, but I've towed my 3300 lb mustang on a flat bed twice! Seemed to run ok, sometimes a little miss at idle, but the CEL only came on after 100 to 500 miles after resetting it. If I can I'll post pics of the intake and plenum, Tim
