I have a 1976 ford with a 390 in it and I am having problems with exaust leaks around the manifold. I have replaced the gasket many times. I was wondering what some of you have done to fix the problem.
Make sure the mating surface is clean on both the manifold and the head, try using a grinder to get off all extra gasket and if worse comes to worse just buy some headers
You probly don't want to hear this but after 34 years of use with rust and leaks sometimes both the mating surfaces - manifolds and heads - need to be milled in order to seal well. Short of that, cleaning both surfaces really well and applying a little hi temp RTV to the gaskets might help.
hell exhaust leaks are just part of the whole experiance of owning one of these old trucks. i've got a 390 with just over 1000 miles since full rebuild running headers and the already leak a bit but you get use to it...lol
