exaust cooling off noise????
I have a 99 250SD CC V10 w/ 80,000 miles and it runs great. when you turn it off it make a rattleing noise until the exaust cools off. it know exaust usually clicks and pings while cooling off but this is a louder noise that stops when the trucks cools down. I looked down under and the only thing I can find is a broken weld on one of thos tacked on heat shields... any one else have this problem.

WOW that's a lot of miles in 3 years! When do you actually get to turn it off?

I got the normal cracklin' and poppin' and also had the broken tack weld on one of the heat shields. 5 minutes and a hose clamp "fixed" the broken weld. Mine rattled while accelerating or cruising at around 1500RPM though...

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Feb-02 AT 11:41 PM (EST)]2000 Ex purchased 12/10/99 rolled over 50,000 yesterday. I've had the exhaust noise since day 1. I had 1300 miles when I pulled into the driveway the first time. Purchased in Dallas TX for $4,000 of when no one in Atlanta was discounting. I'm glad I like the seat.

Hey ! I have EXACTLY the same noise. Now I drive a 15 passenger 1 ton E-350 V-10 so I figured it was just due to the extraordinary LENGTH of the van. But mine ticks and pings louder than ANY vehicle I've ever had ! When I called the dealer he said "well we've never heard anyone else comment about this, we'll check for TSB's and get back to ya" (what a joke THAT was). I look it over all the time, and see nothing out of the ordinary, so it must just be metal contraction noise. Ken

Monsta, you're just about as bad as I am. My 2000 is getting ready to turn over 47,000. The worst part is, I've also got a car that I drive, but, the truck is alot more fun.

Jason, tell me about it!! I now have 54K+! I was actually hoping to keep this thing for 10 more years. But at this rate I'll have over 320,000 miles on it! I'm sure it'll do it, I'm just wonderin' if I'm gonna try and find out. Another problem is that I told the wife that I wouldn't get another truck (to replace this one) for 10 years.
Me and my big mouth...
I now have 54K+! I was actually hoping to keep this thing for 10 more years. But at this rate I'll have over 320,000 miles on it!
