Motor Oil consumption

Quick question I have a 00 PSD with 166K miles on it. I run 5-40 rotella synthetic motor oil. I'm at about 6-7k miles getting ready for new oil change this weekend.. I checked the dipstick and it shows that is low. like two quarts low .......just worried.....but it runs great....It's also my daily driver and weekend worrior......

I wouldn't be too concerned about it myself.

You should check your dipstick often ...and "never" let the level be more than 1 qt low ...especially toward the end of an OCI ...because running with lower oil levels increases the concentration of "abrasive particles" in the oil supply ...and this needlessly increases the rate of "abrasive wear"!

Additives in the oil are a big no-no, it plays hell with the injectors.

there are some people that have websites and videos that recommend adding stuff to oil to help with injector wear....i tend to side with FTE....no additives.

i have seen a video (cant remember where now) where someone had tested oil with and without additives in a homemade crankcase with a see thru panel and the additves made the oil foam. foam and injectors dont play well together.

went back and found link....

Wouldn't it be a good idea to have a filter that takes those abrasive particles out of the oil?
