Fuel Sump?
To sum this up, what I want is the best solution for NO air and the least amount of effort by and most flow from the inline fuel pump. What would that be? I intend to upgrade to stage-2's someday as well... I do intend to do the harpoon mod as well. It takes longer to put that remaining few gallons in there so I can fill it to the filler neck (for calculating MPG's, I use the filler neck as my reference point) than it does to put the first 35 or so in there when using a BIG truck pump... we have one of those in town and it's nice. Thanks for that link PaysonPSD... I've added it to my favorites.
One other question... is the biggest weakness here just air? Is the inline pump my truck has now more than enough? I'm just trying to make it the best it can be... thanks guys,
Jon
When mine was going I would have to cycle the glow plugs twice in 80* degree weather, after origonal start would start fine the rest of the day
We can only give you the info that is available. The air may or may not be the problem, but we all know that is has been known to be a problem. Your starter may well be a problem, you will have to make a choice as to witch you want to fix first. The starter may be the most important, you can remove the starter and take it to an Autozone they will test it for free. You need to make that choice. The information we have given you is what most of us have used to Mod our trucks. Keep us posted and good luck
IDK if any of you know, but would the pump work any more or less harder where it is now with the proper air leak fixes than it would if I were to put the pump in the tank?
Make sure your battery terminals are clean, and the end that goes on the starter is clean.
Change your fuel filter and see if that helps.
Drop the tank and do the full fill mod (hutch/harpoon or something) and more importantly, clean or modify the mixing chamber and screen. That has gotten a lot of people when it was dirty.
READ THE WHOLE GUZZEL WEBSITE, it is very important and great reading for a new learner. you dont nessisarily need to do the prepump and filter, but doing the fuel line and clamps is a great way to help out.
If your high pressure pump is new, find the receipt and see if you cant get it replaced under warrenty. If it sounds weird then it will more then likely die at the worst time.
Run a whole bottle of diesel kleen in your fuel every other fillup a few times, and then use the white bottle of the power service stuff whenever you can, its at walmart and either 6 or 9 dollars a bottle.
DO NOT run your fuel tank to empty, it costs the same wether you fill up every day or once a week. Its about time and not money, because the money is the same in the end. I fill up when the truck gets below 1/4 personally, the fuel pickup is at the bottom, no water will sit in the tank for long (roads are rough enough to keep it mixed in the fuel anyway)
