Fuel Sump

I've been wanting to put a fuel sump on my truck but wanted to check first to make sure I can & what the guys that have them think. I've read on the different sites that it requires an aftearket lift pump if u do install one, but that's basically what our factory pumps are right? Will they function properly with a fuel sump on the tank? Thanks for the help guys

Are you wanting to do it with new fuel lines and 5/8 suction straw ? Sumps are ok will keep you from sucking air with the big straw in low fuel conditions cornering or stopping or taking off. Otherwise I could not see the juice being worth the squeeze.

New fuel line Ya, I did the hutch & harpoon mod so already have a chunk of new line there. What do u mean about 5/8 suction straw? The way I understood it using the sump eliminates the suction straw cuz the fuel is drawen right through the bottom of the tank with the pump. I've also read a lot about how it's easier on the pump cuz it's not working so hard to pull fuel vertically.

It makes no difference to the fuel pump at all. The vertical lift is the same regardless of whether the fuel suction line comes out of the bottom or top of the tank.

Easy..there is no vertical lift with a sump...It becomes flooded suction witch is easier on the pump...It becomes a positive NPSH instead of a negative. just saying

No, the vertical lift is the same regardless of where the fuel is drawn from. Unless the fuel pump is physically moved to a lower point on the vehicle, there's no difference whatsoever.

Imagine the fuel line from the tank to the pump filled with fuel. Half that fuel is going up and half going down, and gravity pulls equally on both halves. This is always true as long as the inlet and outlet are at the same height, regardless of loops or weirdness in between. Since the inlet point of the OE system is like 3 inches higher that where a sump inlet is, there is almost no difference to the pump. That's where Pikachu is coming from regarding vertical lift.

The sump will draw fuel from the lowest point which is great if the fuel is low and sloshed away by g forces. If that's your problem, it's the fix. But otherwise drilling a big effing hole in the bottom of your fuel tank and bolting on a lump that can be scraped off on a rock or a hump in the trail like a scab seems like a bad idea to me.

My dos centavos.

What mods do you have? Adding a sump will gain you exactly nothing.
