If you've got a dealer that sells Nokian tires swing by and take a look. They aren't well known here, but outside of the US they are considered the best winter tire around. They are based in Finland so they have some good testing grounds. The two local shops that many 4x4's go to for tires recomend the Nokian tires. I have the Vativa A/T, it is hands down the best tire I've driven on a truck in the snow. That said, I haven't driven every tire, so take that statement for what it's worth. I can tell you my wife drove through 24" of snow for about 1/4 mile even up a hill and didn't get stuck. The whole grill was full of snow since she was plowing it. And to top it off, she was in 2wd. In the snow in 4wd it is like driving a tank, seems like nothing will stop it. I wasn't going to buy them until I swung by and looked at them. For an A/S tire they really look ready for winter.
Edit: I asked my dealer a couple days ago and he said the Nokian site is missing some tires as they are updating the site, and the Vativa A/T is one of the ones missing.
With enough practice, we all could. It's just the trial and error part of learning that 45 degree tip-up (not tip-over) that would go through more than a few Ex bodies .
