the build date is the best way to tell if you have an early bird or not..but if no sticker then counting bolts on the turbo to see if its early 99 or not will work...but being new to the 7.3 to do that you will need to jump on the fender of the guy's truck..I'm sure he would love you for that lol..you can tell just by opening the hood and looking at the spider that sits in front of the turbo..look where the driver side IC pipes go into the spider..its the leg sticking out to the right in the pic bellow..if its a 99.5 like the orange spider in the pic bellow..then the leg will stay a full 3 inches going into the belly of the spider..if it funnels down like the non painted spider in the pic bellow..its the early 99...
you will also see a fitting on the left leg of the orange 99.5 spider..that is the AIH..the early bird doesnt have one....
