10 K Mod

Wow! Just finished the 10 K mod on my 96 PSD with 205,000 miles. I can't believe the difference in performance. Seems like it has added 50 HP and 40% more low in torque. Took me about 10 minutes on the outside and cost $1.00 for a 6 pack of resistors.
Thanks to all for your postings on how to do the 10K mod. Great site!

Justin

Can I do the 10k mod safely now.
I have just added a 3" dp and a the trucool max.
I don't have a pyro or tranny gauges.
What do you all think?
I am saving up for gauges.

Yes you can it is safe especially if you don't do alot of heavy pulling up hills. I did mine before gauges and when I put them in the temps are close but not too hot. Remember don't pull over 5-6000lbs. up hill for 10 miles and you will be fine.

Didn’t know the towing limitations with the mod. I pull a 12,000 pound fifth wheel often. I guess I will need to remove the mod before towing. I was looking forward to the added HP and torque.

If you are not towing extreme, ie: up hill bothways and at a high rate of speed you might be fine. I just pulled a Maxima and gooseneck trailer across NC the long way mountains and all and My after turbo temp got to 900-950 at times. That means the pre turbo was "probably" close to or at 1200 degrees and that is the max I would go. Although it only did that in the mountains and when I was passing up hill. I estimate the weight I was pulling to be around 5000 or a bit more.

Does a good chip like TW or DP make the 10K pointless, or is there benefit to having both? I haven't bothered with the 10K yet because I am getting a chip. Wrong assumption?

That is a good question that i do not know the answer to. I do see people here that run the 10K with a chip or programmer and I see others who do not. I imagine it depends on which chip you have. I would ask Tony or DP to be sure.

Alot of people say that it is a pointless mod with a Dp or Ts chip as the tunes already cover that area inwhich the 10k mod tweaks. I personally run them stacked and I think I can tell a difference. I have yet to dyno it with it stacked and without to see if there is a diffrence. I'll be sure to post up what I find

Ditto what Cowboy Steve said, I talked once with TW and he told me that the 10K mod has to be removed when you install a chip.

Hey Neal,
I am from Charleston, SC and I am familar with the beautiful NC mountains. Sounds like I need to install a temp gauge for the turbo and tranny do you know of any links for instructions on "How to" install theses gauges?

Thanks,
Justin
