Hi. I am new to this forum, and like the other forums I visit, I am sure the answer is here. Somewhere! My question is this... How interchangeable are parts between the 300 and 240 I6s? I am looking at buying a 69 F100 with the 240 in it and figure that 300 parts ie: headers, carbs, distributors etc are much more plentiful. Thanks for any input!
Hello and welcome to the forums! Be sure to check out the search feature at the top, as it'll probably give you a lot more information than I can squeeze into a few sentences.
The 300 is basically a stroked 240 from the factory. Bore: 4" Stroke: 3.18" (240) 3.98" (300).
The differences are in the crank shaft, pistons, etc. that have to do with the rotating assembly. In fact, you can pretty much pull them out of a 300 and put them into a 240, and you'll have a 300.
The head on the 240 has different compression (and is a bolt on upgrade for the 300.)
Other than that, almost everything is completely identical. Oil pans changed throughout the years on all of them, which is something to keep in mind.
Thanks for the quick reply! As I stated, "I'm sure the answer is here...somwhere". I searched but obviously did not use the right words. Thanks again for the insight. I think I will buy the truck knowing that most things crossover. Does a 302 bolt up to the stock 4spd from a 69? I would assume yes...
Welcome to FTE!
300 is a stroked 240, so they say here. I believe keeping the 240 head on the 300 will increase compression, check w/a 300 owner.
I got a little lost when U said f150 but my understanding is the 302 and 300 have the same "bell".
Have some "P&P" (patients/persistance) and the guys on this forum may have as much info on what U seek as elsewhere on FTE. Don't No, I don't stray far.
