Help, this is driving me nuts. I need my truck up and running ASAP because I have no other form of transportation. I have the 8.8 in my truck with the notorious C-clips. The problem is that when the axle is installed, it give me LOTS of side to side movement. I found this out after the C-clip decided to work it's way out going down the road and the axle almost came out of the truck. I pulled the axle and the bearing is fine, so I think. No burn marks or wear compaired to the new bearing and it still turns freely. What could be causing my axle to do this? I have to make due with this axle until I can fork over the money for a 9" to put in the rear.
In the 8.8 's aren't there o-rings in where the c-clips are to keep them from walking ?
This is on your tuck in your sig ?
also if this 8.8 has never been rebuilt ,you may need new spiders in there in between the spiders and the spool are slip type bearings they wear out
.
Did you do and end play measurement ?
Are you having any leakage problems around your axle seals?
I'm not sure about the O-rings...but this is the truck in my signature. No leakage proplems and when installed, I have 3/8" of side to side movement (endplay?) The spider gears look clean and they had no play. Should I go ahead and replace the bearing anyways. The axle doesn't budge up and down and I'd hate to ruin a perfectlly good bearing and oil seal (pretty 'spensive)getting them out. Thanks for the reply.
