Here's a picture of my axle after I put it back together. Note how when the axle pushes against the thrust pin the c-clip is out of the recess of the spider gear. Are there any spacers that I can use to fix this or can I weld a spacer such as a washer to the end of the axle? HELP PLEASE!!!!! I want my truck back!
hope i'm seeing right, but is the wide part the end of the axle next to the pin? is the c clip tight in the recess in the axle? is the pin worn? how about the recess in the spiders, any worn area here? in my experience which goes all the way back to mid 60's chevelles, all this had to fit very snug before the pin would even go in! course, if there is wear in the mechanism, even to the backside of the spiders and the flat bushing between the spider and the carrier, it could let the spider move over and not engage the clip.
scott
btw, is it like this on both sides?
The C-clip is tight, the pin isn't worn, and the recess for the spider looks good as far as I can see. Can't really get my head in far enough to see. I'll go check it in a minute. Just on one side...........could it be that I need to shim the spider gear over to engauge the c-clip? I didn't look, but I'm pretty sure it has one shim on it, could I shim it more as long as the other spider gears allow it. The other side fits VERY tight. Thanks for the reply!
Originally posted by steve83 I'd put extra spacers behind the side gear, but SOMETHING in that diff has worn significantly.
That's EXACTLY what it needs...I put it all back together and I stuck a screwdriver behind it and it moved a good ways. Anyways, thanks to everyone who has helped me.
