Interchangeable Leaf Springs?

I just got an older 83 F250 4x4 6.9l truck. I need to put some new leaf springs on the front and possibly the rear.

Can anyone tell me what the range is from year-to-year that I could look for springs from.

Also could you use f350 springs?

thanks for any help

Why do you need new springs? It's common on these for the bushings and shackles to be worn. Front springs on these trucks use a reverse arch for the front, in case you weren't aware of it.

On the front you have a flat spring that is reversed with the weight and unless you want to spend some bucks on a lift kit that drops the center section you cannot raise and keep the alignment in specs. Most of these old trucks when the front is sagging or sitting low, the culprit is actually bushings, bolts and shackles, most guys that have replaced them have reported 1 to 1 1/2 inches as far as lifting the bump stop back to original height. You can use the 350 springs on the rear though.

Thanks for the reply, the height of the truck is ok. My problem is that there is the 3 leaf on the front has worn about an eighth of an inch into the next leaf.

I though finding a set in better condition from the wreckers would be good. mainly wanted to know if leafs from a F250 from 1980 til what ever year may fit?

Might get lucky and find the exact spring - haven't checked yet..

again thanks for you help

I'm pretty sure it should only have two leaves, maybe some one has added a leaf.I'm pretty sure also they are the same through the 80's except the 85.5 up 350 I think they changed.

My first take on this is that someone added the 3rd leaf, however, that leaf was cut with a torch and left a sharp edge that has rubbed a deep gouge into the bottom leaf.

I will find a new set somewhere.

thanks guys...

There were two and three leaf springs under the diesel.

250 and 350 use the same springs, front and rear.

You should be good to go with any spring from a diesel between 83 up into the 90's.

The three leaf springs have thinner leaves and should have been for the 60 front axle.

When I took the lift out from under my 97 F250 I was told by a spring shop that all springs from 80-97 F250-F350 Independent or straight axle will swap front and rear.
