That darned little green tab doohickey is a bugger. I was finally able to grab it with a small box end wrench. The angle on the end of the wrench allowed me to get a pretty good hook on that little tab, and I just gave it a quick yank and it came right open.
My problem is breaking open that little motor case. What do you use to bend those little tabs open?

i used a eyeglass scredriver, a flat tip. and put it in the tab area and pryed the tab up.. on both sides,.. then when i re assembled, i just put a flat tip screwdriver acrossed one at a time and wacked the driver with my leathermen, bending them back.
When I put the 2 sides back together, I noticed a couple areas with no parts inside, and I drilled through and used a nut and bolt to hold it together.
well noticed my rear hatch actuator is clicking but not doinging anything! time to take that one out! anyone had a change to remove the excursion rear hatch actuator before?
Did the mod two weeks ago. Both doors are working fine but the drivers side door makes a loud growl or buzz when locking the door. Not sure why this started and what it is. I would take it out again but I don't have a clue where to start or what to look for. Anyone else having this noise?
On two Super Duties ('99 and '01), I have purchased a 'power door lock kit' from Amazon, and simply unplugged the factory harness from the factory solenoid, and installed the new solenoids in the doors, connecting them to the factory harness. This kit is $21.95 +shipping, and works great. The solenoids are powerful and easily overcome the force needed to lock/unlock the doors. In the kit, you get 4 door lock solenoids, a big relay and a giant wiring harness. You will only need the solenoids.
My hat is off to anyone who takes out the latch assembly and fixed the Ford defect. This other method works well, too and involves less skin being scraped off the back of your hands.
