Its always interesting to see what this engine will do,
Ive pulled a 6k trailer all over and never had a problem, as well as a 10x8 ft box that weighed about 4k some good hills at 70mph no problem.
Had to tow a big box moving truck up a short but steep hill, poor guy broke down and was blocking the road entire road, the guy kinda laughed when i pulled up, but the 300 didnt miss a beat.
I pulled a ~5500lb trailer from CT to WA with my 84 F250- Modified 300-6, C6 auto, 6" lift, SAS, 35" Dunlop RVs and 4.10 gears. It did pretty decent, especially when you consider the additional 1500-1800lbs in the bed, including a spare engine.
I just drove my 78 E150 from eastern ID to southern/central CA coast, about 1300miles each way. Coming back I was towing a trailer and took US93- There's a pass just south of Ely, NV that is 7700ft. 20mph was wishful thinking by the time i crested it.
my first truck (when I was in highschool) was a 74 F100 with a 240 and a 3 on the tree.
My weekend job was hauling scrap iron about 60 miles 1 way to the metal recycler. The most I ever rolled across the scales with was 1 ton on the truck and 3 ton on the trailer but I had a header so I was livin large!!
I had a 95 F150. Was pretty good. Bought in Hawaii brought it back to LA and drove it cross country here to MD. Loaded up as much as I could get it in the bed and towed a car too. Did just fine. Never hesitate to put it to the floor.
my 94 f150 worked for me for 14 years. Inline 6 is one the best in my book. Would not hesitate owning another. . Never touched it except for maintenance. Stick shift. Pulled 5k in fire wood and assorted trailers. 5klbs was about max before it became a wimpin dog. Never a problem except the rear end would sag. It was a wimpy half ton. Air shocks in the rear cured that.
I had a 96 F-150 w/5 speed I use to tow a 4500 boat trailer with. Did fine going down the road, but I would smoke the clutch pulling it up the launch ramp- that prompted me to buy a 97 F-150 w/ an auto LOL.

The 300/5speed/3.08 never had a hard time pulling our 5k boat out. You just have to go against your instinct and let the clutch all the way out and let the rpm's drop and pull at around 500rpm or less. It makes so much power down low that i think its probably one of the only engines that could do it.

What rear end did you have?
Oh yeah forgot to mention- it had the 2.55 rear end! I never even knew they used one that high till I looked at the tag on the pumpkin. Great on mileage, but crappy on pulling power, maybe it was because it was the "Eddie Bower" edition, I dunno....
