Well let's see here... The tower of power, The work horse, the torque monster, ole reliable to name a few. I had a Chevy guy tell me the 300 Ford six is not just a straight six... it is "thee straight six" Most people call em good motors... most ignorant folks hate em.

A 300 I6, well it is a "poor mans diesel". They keep going and pull their own weight.

Didn't ford have a package or something called a big six?

Also, as much as I love mine, I wouldn't call it "the straight sx", as dodge's slant six was a pretty good motor too.

I've had em all.
Flathead 250 "Spitfire" Chrysler
170 225 slant 6,
223 Ford,
194 216 230 250 Chevy,
258 4.0 AMC, and 200 Nissan turbo diesel in a IH Scout.
I never did like the slant six as much as most people. I thought the old flathead Spitfire was much better. I know have a 4.0 jeep and a 4.9 Ford. These engines are much better than any of those I listed before. There are many examples of these engines running over 300k miles. The EFI systems really helped as the major problem with old sixes was fuel distribution. I favor the ford slightly for the low end torque but love the jeep above 3000rpm. Both of these engines were designed in the mid sixties as a response to the slant six and chevys redesigned 6 and were out of production by 2001.
Tower of Torque 300

Think that the 'Super Six' was a Hudson.

As far as I know, Jeep used the 4.0L Inline Six up until this current model year. I think they still put it in a few of their models, but have "officially" discontinued use.

IMO, it's just one of MANY bad decisions made by Chrysler in the past 20 years. That engine was almost as bullet-proof as the Ford 300-I6.

Years ago I had a Dorsett Jet Drive boat with a 6 cyl. Ford. I beat it hard, and NEVER had an engine problem. Though it's not much fun when you suck a ski rope into the drive .

I think that Chrysler called their 225cid 2bbl a Super Six. It also came with hydraulic valve lifters. My Dad's Aspen had one. My AMC had a 258 2bbl that was faster and got a little better mileage.
I stand corrected on the 4.0l production end, I forgot about how many models that engine was in.

Nope actually the Hudson six cylinder was the famous "Hudson Hornet" A hopped up multi-carbed inline that beat the snot out of many V8s of the time out there on the oval tracks. The Super Six was a 225 Dodge slant six that had a 2bbl carb option... great engines!

Hot water six, six banger, six holer, six lunger, six pack, 3/4 of a whole engine. These are some names I've heard, among other things best left out.
