I finally got around to taking the saws all to the old ford muffler. Just cutting the muffler out and putting a straight pipe in there made a huge difference in performance. Hopefully it will help mileage too. Not the greatest video, just from my cell phone, will get another one later.
I just did that to mine last week. I went to the muffler shop and was sold a pieace of 3" pipe 6 feet long, and he squeezed down one end so it would fit over the stock 2 1/2". Charged me $50, and I bought a 3" turn down for $12. I have it pointed at my left rear tire. It makes a lower, deeper sound. It doesn't get too loud unless I crank it up. But if I keep it below 2200, it's doable, and helps a lot on the performance. As far as mileage, I think that I'll get better now being that I'm trying to keep it quite, and I'm not so hard on the go pedal.
It true you have to be careful around to 5-0, but isnt it great to pull up to that nice shinny new prius and let it rip. even better when they are on their cell phone
cops round here dont pay to much mind to any diesels be it ford dodge or chevy with straight pipe as long as you are not being stupid loud with it. in most cases they love the sound just as much as the owner of the truck. and like dave and star said most state you are legal to have the straight pipe
Out here, you never see a truck get pulled over for noise, all the cops go after the import kids. I worked with a kid who drove a buzzy acura, got pulled over at least once a month for noise. It ticked him off every day we left work and I would start my unmuffled mustang or truck which was a lot louder than his car.
In front of the rear wheel exit makes a mess of the wheel. We're going to change ours,I'd like to have behind the wheel but the 16 yr old son has to have stacks.
when i get my truck back on the road... ill give post up a video of a 6.9 idi ats turbo with a stight pipe ha thats if i ever can figure this thing out
Switching to a single straight stack. My dad is going to make a custom powder coated tip with navy chief logos done with ceramic chrome. I love the ability to lift skirts from 10 feet away but it will look way better.
