I did my smog a week ago. I knew more about it than he did. He looked at it, asked the other guy there and turned it on, checked for codes, and told me it passed.
I didn't remove anything, only plugged in my wastegate line and cleared the codes.
Actually, I found that unless you are highly modified, it's a better bet to use a shop that has LOTS of knowledge. They already know the rules, and if you abide by them, you pass.
We've had folks get failed because of aftermarket intakes, which ARE approved.
Of course, if you need to try to sneak something past the shop, that's a different story.....
My worry is my very blatant Aeromotive regulator sitting up high. I might just modify some OEM plastic shield to put over it then put oil and dirt on that...
