OK, I know there is a harness that plugs into your factory wiring that you wire your remote start to, so you can simply unplug it to go back to factory without a trace. I refuse to crawl under my dash and cut into the factory wiring of my 99 Econoline, but I need this to make starting it easier, allows it to warm up, and prefer it to be running when I use my wheelchair lift, it's a power hog.
Bull dog security is the only company I've seen with a plug and play install harness. The vehicle didn't come with a single extension harness just for aftermarket r/s installation.
They've changed their website recently, but take a look or call them. Bulldog Security
You might also need a PATS module. It might be preferable for you to take it to a certified installer and have it done for you.
I had the bulldog one ordered, but on back order so long I decided to cancel, may try elsewhere, most places prefer you buy from them to get it installed, not sure I'd get a deal on an install.
I got my alarm & remote start in my 97 F150 installed for the same price as buying it & putting it in myself. My shop installs them free with the purchase. The install isn't a expensive deal for a good shop. It doesn't take long to install & they have the wiring detail on their computer to use to find where to hook it up.
I bought this one already, an extended range type, wanted the T-harness to make it an easy install that can be quickly removed if I was selling the van or it malfunctioned.
For the malfunction side, a single fuse on the power feed will give you that option. Just fuse the constant/battery wire. Then if you have difficulties, remove the fuse to disable the r/s. If you wire the starter interrupt correctly, it will work as factory when the brain doesn't have power.
I have a friend, his had to be completely removed, it was causing his problems of not wanting to start and run, he was using the key, anytime you have to link something between the ignition wires there is a chance it can keep you from starting it.
