What Have YOU Done To Your Truck Today?
Engine
Today I rearranged garage to make room to take engine off of engine stand where it has resided for not quite a year, and sat block on a pallet and tire so I can start putting on flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate on to prepare for putting engine back into truck. Getting closer by a little bit everyday.

Nice. I wouldn’t mind getting info on your kit. Gonna do mine just for piece of mind.
Sorry. Just saw this. Was reading back through a few postings. It is the old one cleaned up. I had it sandblasted, and then I got a rebuild kit from a company called Muscle Car Research and then painted it when I got it all back together. Should function like new. Really the only thing that happens, is they get gummed up inside from old fluid and other contaminants. Kit came with new O rings, seals, springs and whatnot.

GreaseMonkey64: At least it's warm today at your house. Try doing that today at my house and the tools will stick to your fingers.
You could smash your hand in my driveway and not even know it until you thaw out when the job is done.
Not a fun job to tackle solo but at least it's done. Any pix to document the upgrade?

So it is a nice day and now that I have heat in the shop (I do no need it today for sure). But none the less I have been getting ready to take the red truck out and put a Bronco in to change the ball joints. And deep cleaning and straightening up the shop as I go.
So the heater has been going for about 2 weeks and it is great. So I get a whiff or bad gas, as in bad gas in a gas tank. As in the gas tank on the red truck. Yes the red truck has been in the shop for a while, yes that gas has been in the truck way longer than it should.
Last time I took the truck out for a drive has been way longer than planned, but I did drive it at least last summer. Job, life, a new job, more work, work travel, more life....bla bla bla. So I take the fill neck off (no bed on the truck makes it easy to get it off) and get ready to fast drain the tank. Mind you this WAS a almost pristine tank I got off a JY truck along time ago.
Point of this long drawn out story, if you are going to have a truck in a garage for a LONG time best to just empty it. The pics tell the story. Maybe the no heat to heat temp differences made the gas go bad and start to stink. I am glad it did I never though to ck it. I am sure my carb is clogged due to the rust and or junked do to the gas being almost orange color. New tank and sending unit time, I will run it off a 2.5 gal plastic tank until it comes out the shop for good.

OUCH... that is NASTY.
Yep, drain 'em or keep 'em full (and drive 'em).....
Hey Rich.... You know I'm available to help one of your TRUCKS feel wanted. I can bringing one to my house where it will feel LOVE and get fresh gas as needed.
AND, I would drive it weekly to help it feel WANTED.... I hate to see a Ford truck get neglected and feel sad... especially around Christmas.
All at no charge to you....
What are friends for?

After putting engine back on the frame a couple of days ago and bolting up the bell housing and engine to the motor mounts, today, I put on the fuel pump, the thermostat (Robert Shaw) and the starter. Tomorrow, I'll likely put on the valve covers, exhaust manifolds and maybe the carburetor. Anyone have a preferred sequence of reassembling things? I'm open to suggestions.
Dropped the red trucks rear tank, easy with no bed and the tank about 98% empty. Then I pulled the sending unit and hoped it was salvageable...nope. The float had fell off and the pick up tube "filter sock" was GONE, and the rest was cruddy.
But I sold some trucks parts (NP-435 and a NP-205 xfer case) to make up for having to order a new tank and sending unit.

The '77. I added 2 accy type tag lights to my temporary tag mount since removing the rear step bumper, then I put the new mirror glass in my refreshed type 9 mirrors (gasket mount, not glue) and put them back on the truck with antisieze on the 1/4" bolts so they'll come off real easy like when we get to paint. Got my door sills / rocker panels all sealed up. My new Carr 20" Super Hoops .... did some measuring / planning for them too, gonna suplement them for strength. Did some looking at cab bushings too, some pre figgering planning. My painter said likely be after Christmas to paint, I'll take it in for state inspection this week though.
I've been slumming sort-of, and I did a voltage check on my '77 F-350, and was at 14.4v idling. Nice !!
Now, on the other hand, hmm, I checked my '78 E-250 and was only 12.2v at idle. Hmmm, not good.
The 12.2 volts was battery voltage.
So, waaay back in April 2021, I did install a refurb alternator but didn't check voltage at idle. Duh.
I am getting full battery voltage (12.2v) where the red battery wire bolts onto the alternator.
I have since charged the battery overnight to 13.3 volts.
Question:
If my voltage regulator is not working will it not allow the alternator to put out approx 14.2 volts ?
The day in a nutshell. hahahaha

I ordered off Fee-bay a bunch of lens gaskets for the taillights and marker lights that I installed on both my 77' and 76' F150's. They seemed to be pretty good quality and fit very well. I also bought the driver side fresh air vent seals for the 76' from the same seller that I will install once I receive my new firewall insulation. I want to clean up under that dash. It has the dealer installed A/C that is no longer being used and all the vent hoses are shot. Gonna remove what I can but want to keep the vents in the dash for when I put in the new style a/c.
