Good thinking, so I dropped it in mine. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post20127361
I was under the '77 looking over it again, considering coming up jobs and I noticed the rubber caps on my bleeder valves .... two of four were rotted so I got out, went and got my little bag of bleeder valve caps and was replacing them all 4 when suddenly I noticed movement near me. I looked and there was a squirrel maybe 2 feet from my face. He froze, then in squirrel-eeze, I said "Hello" ... he stared at me a few seconds, then he broke and run the other way. Glad wasn't a skunk.

1977 F-100 Ranger. Replaced heater Core, which was leaking ,as well as hoses. Stripped out the cab and sanded floor to remove rust and some paint, cleaned with Purple Power, then treated with OSPHO, then 2 coats POR15 (per Speedfreaks78 directions -and a BIG THANK YOU!!) ,laid down Dynamat, followed by Dynaliner, tucked original carpet edge behind Heater Core and Firewall insulation , and replaced old sills with new as part of the passengers side sill had been eaten away by anti-freeze, and finished with a new door gasket. Have not removed headliner yet to add Dynamat and liner to further reduce noise and heat transfer. All in good time!!!

I know some people are going to hate this, but idgaf. When I got this truck, it never had the rear tank. FIL told me a piece of rebar gouged it, and torn a huge hole. He said he was going to replace it, took the old one off, and never did. I don't need two tanks on this thing, and wanted to do a spare tire winch where the old tank was located. I also didn't want to patch the rear gas tank door, although I could easily, I wanted to have a purpose.
I havent gotten to the finishing touches, but Sunday, and yesterday, I did this. I need to figure out a couple of bushing/bearings for the drive rod at either end of the old fuel filler tube. It actually friggin works though, and just need some fine tuning.
Now I need to get a spare. Anyone holding a 16.5" 8 lug rim?
Be kind.....
Scrap metal and the winch I pulled from an E350 at the junk yard
Dry fit the support
brain storming on a swivel and bearing assembly for the drive rod.
dry fit swivel
Finished support with winch mounted.
Welded in place, and connected to drive rod
drive rod connecting to the winch, from the previous fuel tube
unfinished top side. Need to install a couple of bushings with bearings at the top and end of the fuel tube
Socket extension with a 3/4" end, fits into my lug wrench. to lift and lower the spare.

I welded all but a couple, so I can get the bushing/bearings in over the rod.
Yeah, its one of those things that you would never really see, unless you start looking. I always hated the spare tire in the bed too. If you have to haul 4x8 sheets of anything the tire is in the way. Plus out here, the heat and sun dryrots them so fast in the bed.
