cab-off again!!
Since it seemed relatively painless for the tech to pull the cab and after, it looked to me there was not a bolt he could'nt get to .Plus no belt buckle scratches on the fender, ha! It's a great running truck , but after this, I'm done with major surgery for a minor leak, after all it is a work truck. It did'nt start leaking till' it hit the 75000 mark.
I'll let you know how things work out.. i have a lot of faith in these techs, i might not have done it had I not talked to them first. But off the subject for a minute . I have been using LucasOil fuel additive, my truck runs great on it.Heard anything good or bad about this stuff? It says upper cylinder lubricant on the bottle.

How about my opinion?
I’m a Senior Master Technician for my local Ford dealer, Diesel and Hybrid certified included. I have worked on the Powerstroke since the 6.9lit. I know these trucks inside and out. You show me a bolt; I’ll tell you where it goes. I have performed every repair possible and I can tell you every shortcut! My point is, pulling the cab is not a drastic operation. It all depends on the circumstances in which you are working and the condition of the vehicle. About the bedplate seal, if it’s back for a second time with the same repair, it was not diagnosed or repaired correctly. They might not have found the actual cause of the leak or failed on assembly. I have performed this numerous times and have never seen a short block cause a leak. If I’m going after the bedplate seal, I would remove the engine, too easy. But that all depends if they have the Rotunda lift, support brackets, etc. The equipment is what dictates the operation. I pull the cab on a 6.0 when it’s seized so I can seperate the flexplate nuts. What matters most, is that if the cab is pulled, always replace the bolts.
Here’s a video on myself repairing a 6.4lit.

Master tech your right on. I'm pretty sure it failed on assembly, I understand it's a cord type gasket, plus requiring a spot or two of permatex. The ford techs did a great of getting everything back together (except that). (the LucasOil is a fuel add.)
My bedplate was done right at 98K Miles no drips since. Also paid the extra $$$ for ARP Headstuds as Ford approved under warranty. My cab has been off 3 times with no issues each time. Unfortunately I am out of warranty...... Please God???

I see he posted Lucas Oil "fuel" additive, not "oil" additive....
Stop using it. Any oil additive can throw off the formula and cause foaming. Lucas is one that has positively shown to cause foaming and in a HEUI engine (high-pressure oil fired injectors) this can cause major problems. It can also contribute to sludge build up. Use a good quality diesel oil, preferably a 5w-40 synthetic, and there is no need for additives.

Thanks for the complement!
On this video, the 6.4lit had the high pressure pump fail. It also scattered metal shaving throughout the entire fuel system. I repalced high h/p pump, all injectors, all fuel lines and cleaned the tank.

Bedplate Seal

>Actually, the bedplate seals are a rubber/silicone composite. The front cover gasket is embedded rubber to an aluminum plate. The rear cover uses a seal also. where they connect, you had a bit of silicone sealer. Not just any sealer, but one that does not absorb diesel. I do use the permatex high tack spay on the channels for the bedplate seals. <o

>I'm replaced the bedplate seal on an 04, 6.9lit and I am recording for a future video. I take pictures of all the seals for it too.<o
