VIN code breakdown?
I have obtained a 1966 F100. I was wondering if anyone could help me breakdown the info?
The VIN # F10YK768947
The other info on the tag is as follows:

F10= 1/2 ton 2WD truck
Y = 352 engine
K= Kansas City assembly plant
768947= Oct. 1965 build date..1966 model
WB-115" = shortbed truck
F= exterior color = Light Blue
F100 = truck model...1/2 ton truck
281= interior trim code and body type...2= Medium blue crush vinyl and medium blue wicker pattern vinyl.
81= 81A= base model conventional cab truck
C= Transmission = Ford medium duty 3 speed.
08 = rear axle ratio...3.50 axle ratio non locking, 3.3M capacity
5000 is trucks Max GVWR in pounds with people and cargo.
172@4000 is the engines certified NET HP at specified RPM
63= DSO...where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from..Memphis in this case.

F = Actual color: Light Blue 1965/67 F100/350: AE60-1226-A.
Arcadian Blue is the US promotional name for this color for 1965/67 F100/350's.
If this was a 1965/67 Mercury (M Series truck), the COLOR code would be an H.
Tiffany Blue is Mercury's promotional name for this color.

what's the difference between the promotional name and the actual color? If you went to a paint shop not knowing the paint code and you just said light blue I'm sure you'd get a blank stare,
But if you stated it's a 1965-67 Ford color called Arcadian Blue, they can look it right up there.

None.

If you went to a body (paint) shop and asked for Arcadian or Light Blue, you'd get a blank stare.
Ford put the COLOR code on Warranty Plates for a reason. All body shops go by the COLOR code, not by the name of the color.
AE60-1226-A .. Light Blue was first used in 1959.
1959/64 Passenger Cars: Promo name: Skymist Blue.
Ford changes the promotional names of colors more often than women change their minds. But...the actual color could be the same for decades.
This is why you cannot go by names of colors, only by the COLOR code.
Here's another example: AE60-1730-A Vermillion was used from 1965 thru 1979.
Promotional names for Vermillion: Poppy Red, Torch Red, Calypso Coral, Coral.

the whites are another good example of the differing names...Im of the thinking that Corinthian and Wimboldon and whatever name it became later on are all one and the same...best example I see in 61-6 trucks is the dashboard....

OH, wimbeldon, they sell it rattle can at the checker by my house, that;s how I found out the white on my truck is actually wimbeldon!

Thank you guys for all the info on my truck. It is painted white at the moment and I wanted it back to the original color. I need to see if I can find some pictures of truck with this color and what the interior looks like. First I have to yank the motor out and get it back in running order. Thanks again for all the help.
