I have 2004 f-350 6.L with over 100.000 miles.recently notes white smoke coming out of talil pipe really bad. happens cold or hot.notes black deposit on the tail pipe.check for codes no codes.there is a miss while you driving.I would suspect bad injector but I could be wrong.
ANY IDEA?????
I have leakey coolant bottle that I have to replace, has hair line crack.and I just ordered adapter for coolant bottle so I can pressure test the system to see if it has internal leaks.
The manual states to do a vacuum test. You need some specific equipment to do it. The white smoke is either fuel or coolant. Does it smoke at an idle? If so, what does it smell like? As I said, sometimes your fuel economy will give you a clue. It is always good to have the codes read if you have a way to do that.
it smells like diesel. smokes at idle than its stop for @ 30-40 seconds than again. I'm using this truck for snow plowing and land scaping and it is hard to figure out mpg.
Sounds like it is time to focus on which injector(s). Do so quickly, if you dump a lot of fuel in a cylinder it can be bad. It may be worth a trip to the dealership to get the codes read.
Excessive smoke and fuel smell could be caused by air in the fuel, contaminated fuel, loose or plugged injectors, worn or leaking injector o-rings. Also PCM inputs such as MAP or ICP sensors.
you could also pull the egr valve and give it a cleaning, and at the same time check for any wetness in the intake or on the valve.if it's wet you'll need to change the egr cooler.
finally truck is fixed.after @$1600 in parts : oil cooler,egr cooler,filters,oil,coolant,also I replaced oil pan.was leaking oil.and some misc.parts.for the labor I would say @ 40h I did it by my self.
thank you all for tips
