95 7.3 PSD. Power steering leaks from brass fitting that fits over metal tubing and threads into a larger brass fitting seated directly into bottom of power steering reservoir. Leak is small when idling and increases when pressure increased by turning wheel or simply wiggleing it by hand. I'd post a pic but this newbie can't figure out how to get that done. Any help would be appreciated. I'm hoping there's an o-ring in there that's worn but I just don't know.
There is an o ring in there but it's usually the swivel fitting that leaks. Any auto parts store would have the hose almost. I'd recommend getting a new one.
Since it's getting flushed out right now you can also ask for an inline transmission filter. ATP and wix both make them. Put that on the return line, the one that is clamped on. Then refil the pump with synthetic ATF like mobil 1. It will be much happier in the long run.
It's supposed to have ATF in it in case you didn't know. NOT power steering fluid. That stuff is junk.
Thanks for the reply RRanch. My book says Premium Power Steering Fluid but I've been told they use ATF.....never had to put any in this vehicle. Where 'bout in West Texas are you? I was born in Plainview and have spent a lot of time from there to Ralls and on over towards Matador and Roaring Springs.
We're near lubbock. On a little ranch near the drag strip if you know where it is.
I don't know why Ford switched to that PS fluid crap in the owners manual. It was around 96 or 97 though. Everything before that always said mercon back till 92 then type F before that. I've always used synthetic mercon or regular mercon in the newer ones. Type F in 91 and before. Never had a pump go bad either. Now I use the synthetic in everything.
Come by sometime if you ever need help working on it.
Yep, know where that's at......the strip is pretty infamous in those parts. Still have some family in Shallowwater, Idalou, and Cone and close friends in Roaring Springs. Might just look you up next time I'm out that way. I'll be waitin' till it warms up though....don't miss those winters out there.
Our farm is right off the end of the track. I mean if your brakes don't work, you go through my living room, if you can miss all the trees we planted just for that.
I think the track is closed for good now. The owner got ripped by some shady pavers a couple years ago and closed down after some bad accidents. I kinda hope he reopens but it's not looking good. I kinda like watching the races from the roof of my barn for free.
Mine was leaking in the same location. I got my new line from Napa. I think I paid around $25 for it. It was only 2 or 3 weeks ago that I replaced it. Not that hard to do.
Sorry to bump an old thread, but it looks very difficult to remove the High pressure hose at the bottom. I got the line off at the pump, but can't get a wrench on the bottom bolt. Any hints/tips?

Turn the wheels to the left and then there are a little "window" in the fender, thats the best place to get the bottom connection. Good luck
