Just Bing nosey - I thought the 205 was one of the few "bullet-proof" T-cases. I know a lot of offroaders change to one of these. Some even switch to a twin-stick. A few even have twin 205's mounted ( Hard core ).
nothing is "bullet proof" only "bullet resistant" the 205 is definatly strong and readily available and parts are plentiful for it. this makes it popular for offroaders. the 4407's in our 96 and 97's is a beefy unit. its very hard to break one. the problem is that when you do there are not a whole lot of manufactures of parts.
Hmm, I am a little confused (magine that?) I have the manual Warn hubs. I have terrible wheel hop in 4WD and avoid turning all I can on dry pavement. I tried to shift in to 2WD on pavement but it did not help when I turned...it still hopped. Is there something wrong? I just ASSuMEd that is just the way it is.

Are you turning in 4wd on dry pavement or just with the hubs locked in in 2wd? if just in 2wd with hubs locked some bind is normal. hopping is a sign of a seized up axle u-joint
I am tried to turn in 2WD w/hubs locked and it still hops. I am not sure what a axle u-joint is and how does it seize? and how can I undo it? or even check it for that matter

The axle U joint is the + looking thing between to the axle peace in the front. The is 3 of them in the front. 1 drivers side, 2 passenger side. Not sure how to check them but they can be a mother to replace.

Of course it is difficult to replace or it wouldn't break on my truck, lol. When I unlock the hubs all is normal but when the hubs are locked it hops like a barefooted monkey on a hot tin roof.

That would tell me there binding and 1 or all 3 are bad. I ture with no problem with my hubs locked in 2wd.
DAWGONE IT! I just tore my front hubs apart a few months back and replaced the brakes/rotors. What a lovely beer drinking wrench throwing afternoon that was!, lol I will figure it out. Thanks for the pointers fellas!
I will start a new thread in the spring when I attempt this.

The best way to test them is to lock one hub in the jack up that tire with the tire turned out all the way. Then once its up in the air try to spin that tire. If it spins smooth the joint is good. It is sticks or can't spin it all your u-joint is junk. Do this on both sides with the truck in 2wd with one hub locked in at a time.

Thank you. I knew there was a way to do but was not sure.
