Fuel leak, not start..

So I have a '94 F350 IDI Turbo with several issues... My glow plugs are shot for one, and the truck just won't start if it is too cold or has been sitting for a while.. Now I am about to replace the glow plugs however it has been relatively warm the past couple of days, so I figured my truck would start. No luck. I have also been smelling fresh diesel coming from the e.c. I checked only to find diesel on top of and around my fuel filter. I believe it to be coming from this black connection on top. From what I gather, this is a heater of some sort(?) and if it leaks this means I will get air in my lines? So how do I fix this and does this connecter come off? I have trying to gently pull it off with no luck but I don't want to rip it off.. Do I have to purge the fuel system after? How do I do that also? This is a picture off what I am talking about, you can see the black connection with the red wire. Thanks for your help guys!!

Steve

You access that fitting from the underside and yes you have air intrusion if it gets damp air will leak when diesel won't. and it causes very hard cold starts. You need your glow plugs to work I have seen these engines that were hard to start without them when it is 80 degrees out.

My system knock on wood loves me!! Aside from my pressure being high, I just replaced all injectors and return lines and it didn't leak a drip!!! If it is leaking from there pull the filter and look up under there or you can pull the whole header assembley. You should be able to reseal it with diesel resistant silicone and be good or replace the whole thing

You have to pull the filter header off to get to it. PLC7.3 and others have detailed instructions on how to change it out and I thing oregon fuel injection lists the oring seperately. Please don't put any silicone in there.

Reason I said it is because I have seen it done and you just put a tiny amount in the little seal area. I see it as an option if you can't afford to replace it. Good ol star!!!

Maybe so but I don't want any silicone any where near my fuel. lol
You would be suprized how many motors and radiators because of silicone abuse.

What will silicone do in the fuel? Just wondering.

Silicon will not hurt the fuel, it also doesn't desolve in the fuel and when some comes loose hopefully the filter stops it and it should but it wouldnt be good or in an injector line or injector.

I have replaced many motors because silicone stopped up the oil pump screen or the bottom of the radiator so it is rare I advise someone to use it. (especially that I dony know)

I see, thanks. Like dumping bits of rubber or something in the fuel, makes sense.

Well i couldn't find the oring on oregons site. But I think it was plc7.3 that either posted the size of it or where you could get it. But geesh if we have a size the oring can't be over a buck or two.

You like jb weld just clean it up and put jb on top of it, you don't even have to pull the filter that way. lol

Have read some guy's use that JB weld for that fix. That stuff seems to pop up for a good many things. Looks like one more thing I'll have to get for Red's toolbox
