I have a 94 F250 with the first turbo offered by Ford. My problem is that around some of my glow plugs, fuel is leaking from around the collars that rest over them and that are connected to the rubber hoses. Why are these things leaking, and how do I fix them? I've already tried tightening the fuel lines on top, but the fuel isn't leaking from there; only from those collars connected to the small rubber hoses going from glow plug to glow plug. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like you are confusing the fuel injectors with the glow plugs. A common problem is old hard o-rings. Get a kit to replace the orings and fuel return hoses all at once. The glow plugs are the ones about 3/8 inch wide with the wire attached. Welcome to the web site, we were all new at this at one point, you can learn about any problem with your truck here!!
welcome aboard ...
the fuel return caps have 2 orings beneath them. they develope leaks from the fuel drying them out and cracking. there is a repair kit available from internation truck dealers or from injection shops. tightening the nuts on top of the injectors wont help and may even cause the steel lines to crack.
you can carefully loosen the nuts on the injectors and CAREFULLY move the steel line enough to remove the plastic caps, replace the orings and replace the caps and tighten the fuel lines . take note to the word CAREFULLY.
Yeah, I guess you're right about that - I've been doing nothing but learning since I bought this truck. It's been worth it though. Will this kit with new o-rings be available at regular auto parts stores? Thanks a bunch for the info.
the $80 kit at napa has all the little hoses, conectors and everything to basically replace the fuel return setup on the engine. you can get just the o-rings in a little packet from ford. got mine 2 weeks ago for $15. i didnt feel a need to get the whole kit since i had just replaced all the fuel line there anyway.
If you are carefull with the plastic caps all you need is the o-rings, I got my from Ford, and a length of bulk fuel hose available at any auto supply store.
i have heard and read it on here before that the plastic tees will distort over time and not seal right so thats why i got the whole kit instead of just the orings and line
