What you should definitely do it make a flip down mount for the license plate that doubles as a step. I got one that bolts on to the stock bumper from an ambulance company that has a license plate mount on the front then the mount flips down on a spring loaded hinge that allows you to comfortably step up and check you oil, etc. even though im over 6 foot tall, I couldn't imagine working without the step. If you want pics let me know.
Small letters??,Its a FORD,not a toyota
Hence the term "BUILT FORD TOUGH"
Home of the Super Duty
yea but if you go and start doin stuff like that on ur truck to show off then your no better than the civic as stated earlier might as well drive a cheby
Dennis,
Looking good, I like the concept. The only thing I see that I would maybe do a little diffenently and this is just me, what you are doing is good. I would angle up the bottom slightly as you work your way around the curve. I like a little more shape instead of just the square look from the front. Keep up the good work and keep the pictures coming.
Not to douse out the party here, but don't be too surprised of Ford comes down on you if you decide to use their font when you put FORD on the front bumper...
One bumper should be ok, but if you make more than one, make sure you have the proper licensing. I went through this years ago when I made them for Durangos and Dakotas. I would add the RAM symbol to the end product, and was sent a very nice letter from an attorney explaining that I wasn't licensed to use their name or trademark. It basically was a cease and desist warning, stating that further legal action would be taken against me if I continued.
Needless to say...I quit adding those names and told the customers that they could put whatever thay wanted on their bumper after they paid for it.
Ya I don't think I am going to put FORD on the bumper, I put the holes in it today and started mounting up the fog lights, and I really like the way it looks. The lights really set everything off great.
BAD news is that I am going to have to play around with the last part of the flange that I put on. It is just too close to the tire. Maye 2..5-3 inches, so I am going to try and redesign that so I can get some more clearance.
It's looking good...nice mean look from it. I'd go with a powder coat to protect the metal before doing a rubber coat, if that's your angle. You should be able to get it PC for around $100 at most any PC company.
I used to PC my own parts, when I lived in Ohio. I had 4, used ovens that were perfect for the small parts, but never had one large enough for the big stuff.
everybody quit posting after they saw your pics...i guess, like me- they figure you are doing a great job and dont need any advice...lol..i just want you to know I LOVE IT!!! that is fantastic- how much you got in building them.
Hmm my friend Ben told me I should get em powder coated also. He is going to get his qaud frame done, and thought maybe we should do it at the same time. I wouldn't mind spending 100 bucks and knowing that it will be very well protected.
Yeah I think right now I spent 145 on the 4x8 sheet of 3/16...125 on the fog lights...and say another 15 in misc. stuff. So all in all I have spent $285 and should be able to get the front and back done for that price. $285 is a lot less then a $2000 road armor!
Thanks for all the support guys, I will keep updating as I go along!
i would put a licanse plate mount on it with the receiver for the trailer hitch hidden under the plate, make the plate flip down and be strong enough to stand on that would be awesome

where are the lights going to be mounted? I am in the process of planning a build, and I am going to cut two 4.5" holes in the front of the bumper, weld two 3" long pieces of 4.5" ID pipe to the back of the bumper and flush mount two 4" HID Hellas
Yeah I have the 2 inch I.D. heavy walled tubing for the receiver, just haven't mocked that up yet I have a few more things to do first.
The lights are mounted if I recall correctly 20 inches C-C. They are mounted in the center plate on the bumper. I wanted them closer together, like the 2000 series super duty.
I did pretty much what you are describing, I cut a 4.5 inch hole, and slide a 4.5 inch O.D. pipe. 4 inch I.D. and I am mounting two 3 3/4 inch fog lights. I am going to weld the pipe flush to the surface of the bumper, then weld the entire back side of the pipe, and then grind the front smooth. That way you do no see any seems at all. Plus if you mounted it to the back of the bumper there would be space between the two and a possible place for water to sit and rust it out.
Thanks again folks I will keep you updated! And keep the ideas coming!!!
I'm digging the idea of making the I.D. cut on the bumper the same as the O.D. of the pipe, then welding from the outside to eliminate seams on the outside. SWELL idea, Beav!
