Huge transmission problem.....
I was driving my wife's van (2005 Ford Freestar 3.3L, 106k miles) today. I was climbing a hill at 75mph on the interstate when, I had no pull. RPM's jumped up but nothing. I pulled over and had no D, 1, or 3. No reverse either. All I had was park. No lights on the dash and no sounds from under the hood. No warning of slippage before. Just nothing out of nowhere.
How can I test....if there is anything....to see what is wrong? Times are tough here where I am and I'm afraid of getting hosed by a mechanic.
Thanks so much to anyone that can help us.

If the level changes it means the pump is working and something has stripped. These are known to strip the splines out of the converter.
Bottom line, if the fluid is full the transmission will have to come out and inspected for the failure, nothing external can cause it to loose engagements completely, especially reverse.
Where is a good place to look for another one?
I do no won't to go with rebuilding this one.
Thanks to anyone.

It appears you are not alone.
Nothing like a $2000 trans job on a $5000 car.

I would use the search results to get the ballpark cost numbers on used/reman transmissions. You are going to have to find a local shop to deal with this unless you are up to a FWD trans swap.
