Alternator help please

I went to pick n pull today they are having a half off sale. Scored a fresh remanufactured 3g alternator with pig tails and had it tested all good to go. And a mercury sable engine fan looks like the Lincoln fan for 40 bucks. My question is if I'm running a battery isolator and going directly from the alternator too the isolator do I still have to use the 175amp mega fuse? I'm thinking now but would hate to be wrong. Thanks in advance

I would still run the 175 amp fuse.
I would hate to burn the truck up because I was cheap and did not run a fuse.
