What is it?
On my 76 Ford F-100 under the dash I found a white ceramic type box mounted behind the light switch on the body. The wiring harness (3 connector) was unplug. I plugged it back up and no difference in anything. What is this box? My useless Haynes manual show nothing of it.

What is it?
It sounds like a ballast resistor to the ignition coil. I know several aftermarket companies sell universal replacement ballasts that are about 1x1x3 inches - made of white ceramic - rated about 1.5 ohms. Possibly the remnants of someone elses ignition upgrade?
