Poor acceration
My 76 F-100 (360 2BBL) has intermitent problems. When I accerlate from a dead stop sometimes it lags or dies unless I pump the pedal lighty several times. The vacuum advance and timing is good. Does this sound like the power valve or accerator pump is bad? Also, can this be replaced without rebuilding the carb?

Sound to me like a bad accelerator pump to me. Yes it can be fixed without even removing the carb, if you have a Ford 2bbl carb. To check it, remove the air cleaner, and with the engine off, look down into the carb and open the primarys. You should see a steady stream of gas darn near as soon as you start to open up the throttle. If you don't see gas, or it's late, you need a new accelerator pump. It should take about ten minutes to change it.
