ok, i am having problems with my clutch slipping in 3rd 4th and 5th. it will run fine flat or downhill in those gears, but when you hit a hill, downshift, downshift. it will stay at 2200 rpms but the mph will just keep dropping, i have a clutch disc coming in monday and was wondering if i should take out the flywheel and have it turned and same with the pressure plate (is this possible?) just wondering cause i have not had much expereince with clutches, and no diesel exp. until about 3 months ago
Are you working on the 90 model, is so the flywheel cannot be surfaced, I have always replaced the pressure plate with the clutch, throwout bearing and pilot bearing too.
If your flywheel is stock, its probably worn out. Ive got a parts truck that pulled hard down low, but as soon as the rpms starter to go up, you could feel the clutch start to slip.
When I pulled the tranny, I found that the flywheel had a lot of play in it.
see the only reason i am asking is i am a subcontractor, and this time of year is tough, not only not much work going on, but gotta pay taxes too. i am just looking for a cheap temp fix till i can get a solid flywheel conversion
If your flywheel is wore out it will usually make a loud clunking noise when you cluthc it or whenyou killthe motor. A slipping clutch does not nesseccarily mean your flwheel is toast.
Ideally you would change them both but do what you need to keep her going.
