1990 7.3 e4od, tach not working, not shifting properly i have: replaced the sensor on the gear cover, check ed the fuses under the dash, pulled off the connection on the side of the trans, sprayed eletrical cleaner on both connectors, still nothing!! went to a friend who has the scanner &no codes came up! right were you plug the scanner in under the hood on the drivers side there are two relays, what do they do, they look like 30 amp square relays-----what am i doing wrong, i have 2nd &4th gear limp mode
tjc; that is my question, how do i get the tach to work? i have read a lot of threads here all pointing to, the sensor on the gear cover, or a fuse under the dash, well i replced all that and still nothing, &at 6'5'' 250 i wish all of you could come over to watch me try to get into position to get behind the steering wheel and try looking up for loose wire
The E4OD controller uses the tach signal and the signal from the speedometer speed sensor to figure out what gear it should be in.
Additional input comes from the FILP sensor on the IP, to see how far down the throttle pedal is.
Without any one of the three signals above, the E4OD goes into limp mode.
dave i under stand,--- and thank you- my problem is no tach, i replaced the nut sensor on the gear cover, i checked the fuses under the dash there all good --- i used a test light to check the fuse box, it's getting power, i went to a guy that has a scaner, i sat in the truck , foot on the pedal ---and no codes come up- then he had to go back to work, then today i follow the wires back to the passenger side were they seem to go into a short circit protector - i took that out unpluged the connector cleaned them off with elec con spray --cleaned the grounds =====nothing changes at the tach
is there a relay i'm missing .1990 7.3
unplug the tach sensor at the timing cover. take a test light, and with the engine running see if you have power to the wires on the truck side of the plug. one will be voltage, the other is a ground.
if you have voltage at one pin and ground at the other, the truck side of the wiring and the gauge is good and the sensor is bad.
ok, the next place is the connector behind the dash.you should have 12 volts at pin 13, and ground at pin 6.
here is the diagnostic tables for the diesel tach.
the wiresfrom the connector go to 3in x3in box part #fopu-io316-aa short circit protector, in's on the passenger side just behind the batteries ,what does that controle looks like the power goes through that
