Yep. Duct tape. The tape is rougher than the wood and provides better surface tension to hold the spacer in place. Also by covering all the wood in duct tape makes it less susceptible to the weather (soaking the wood) so I didn't have to replace it as often (I never changed the wedges). Also, the tape is very thin and I can wrap the wood to get the exact thickness of the wedge for a perfect fit.

I had a red top in my last truck. Sold it with the red top still working great 5 years later. I've had these for about a year and a half so far and they are working like champs...
For both of my Red Tops, I used the plastic adapters which came with them and they mounted perfectly in the stock battery trays. I've had no issues at all with them sliding around, either.
using the stock mount it just slides side to side, a block of wood would fix this. i mighgt just do that.
also, curious, how many of you keep the little "battery" cover off of the driver side? it seems a little annoying to remove with my coolant filter in the way
LOL, my battery cover has been in the trash for so long now that I forgot about it.

Second pic.... Just a view from the top... You can see the hold down bar I made.. notice how one sits higher than the other... There is about 1/2in to spare above each of them. http://www.s-10.org/f-250/Battery/100_1396.JPG

X2. Optimas are overrated. They're a PITA to charge. I have to parallel a lead acid battery with my Optima in my Jeep to put a charge back in it. If I don't do that, it won't charge. My yellow top likes to die sitting. I'll never buy another Optima.
