Normal Boost?

Bit of a long post but I want to be sure to get everything out here. I've been driving my Dad's F-250 for about a week since my truck is broke down. It's a 2003 6.0l that is stock now. About 160k miles currently. 5k miles ago it had new heads, new egr and oil cooler, arp headstuds, and a new turbo center rotating assembly.

It seems to me that the turbo is taking longer to spool down, so I was wondering what the average boost we should be seeing is? Highway speeds it runs 0-2 psi, when you get on it it can spool up to around 20 psi. Today though at highway speed it never dropped below 1-2 psi for about an hour. I parked it and let it idle for about 10 minutes and it finally started to fluctuate down to 0 psi.

So, my question
1. Does it sound like we might be developing a problem? I'd like to deal with anything before it happens if possible.
2. What's the usual boost number we should be seeing?
3. Do I need to wait for the turbo to spool down to 0 psi before shutting her off?

Your gauge could be off or where you have it tapped could change things. Driving down the road you can have Zero or 10 pounds depending on road grade and head winds. How is the truck acting? Normal, you could be paranoid.

The gauge does worry me since it's a bully dog outlook monitor that reads straight from the computer. The truck is acting normal other than it seems to be taking longer to spool down. I know I'm paranoid when it comes to this truck but we just dumped nearly $9000 into the motor so I'm a freak about it now. There's no smoke or funny acting but I'd like to be certain and was curious about the answers to these questions anyway

Are you saying that it read 2 PSI sitting at an idle? I have no idea what would cause that, but I don't think it's normal. Mine certainly never does that. In fact, with the tranny out of gear, it won't show any boost at all no matter how I snap the throttle.

Normal boost is highly variable, as stated above, but running normal without a load I can't really get it to boost over 20. I suppose it would if I forced it into a high gear, but normally it just accelerates and cannot use more than 20. To get up to max of 26-28, I have to be pulling a hard load.

Sorry, no, once it's in park its only reading 1 pound of boost, but it seems to be taking it an abnormally long amount of time for that to die down. Jumping on it today it read as high as 23 psi which I don't think I've ever seen. It usually max's out at 19 or 20 psi.

I'm not worried that it needs to go into the shop immediately, but I am wondering if this is a sign of something I can prevent. I monitor the gauges pretty well and the sudden change concerned me.

On second thought, it would be pretty hard to actually see 1 or 2# of boost on my stock gauge. What you are seeing might just be the higher resolution of a digital OBD gauge.

the readings seem off to me you should be at near 0 at idle and max boost should be 25-28

I have an Edge Insight Monitor. At idle it always reads 0 psi. I think the highest I've seen it was 23-26 psi it I get on it.
