turbo surge?

turbo surge?
Coming home tonight, windows down, up a 3% grade around 40 miles an hour with no load I heard the turbo surging. Looked at the turbo boost gauge and, sure enough, it would spool up to around 10psi and let off to about 3psi. It wasn't really fast, just about a second to spool and then it would drop. I wasn't moving the throttle at all. Never heard it do that before. I had a 7.3 that did it so I know what surge sounds like.
Regen cyle? EGR valve? I'm stumped...
Truck is a Job #3 with 2500 miles on it.

sounds like it more than likely went into a active regen cycle on you. mine does that every time it goes into regen, which happens to be about every 100 miles or so for the past 32,000 miles. pretty easy to tell when in regen because of the boost gauge bouncing all over the place and making odd whistling and hissing sounds.

Update, i had the stock tune in and the turbo surged just like you stated and it was in regen, if you press the instrument cluster an go to system check it will tell you if the truck is in a exhaust cleaning cycle if you have the updated software in the truck.

I mounted mine in the lower right side of the windsheild close to the grab handel.

I take it down in the afternoon if the truck is sitting for awhile, the sceen got hot once and discolored, nothing permanent but im a little more carefull now. The temps in the truck can get to over 140 degrees around here in the summer.
