i just did it this passed weekend suckeddddd 1994 idi 5 speed had to lift motor and trans and remove oilpump and pickup,y pipe most oil pans are rtv not gasketed i installed a gasket dirty job
According to some manuals, if you raise the engine as far as you can, unbolt the pan and tilt it so you can drop the oil pump pickup off, you can remove the pan with the engine in the chassis.
If you dropped the oil pump off as well, that should make it easier.
But you have to remember to put everything you drop off back in the oil pan before you reinstall it, and then put everything back on after the oil pan is in place before bolting it up.
I have never done it this way, but you are SUPPOSED to be able to.

At least we now know it is possible. That rtv they use is a pain isn't it.
Is that just raising the engine bolted to the frame, or are the mounts freed? How would you go about raising it? I am picking up my old engine from my buddies place and getting a cherry picker from a rental place that will let me have it for the whole weekend. I may just free the engine from the mounts and lift it a little to see how this will work but if i dont have to let go of the mounts, i dont want to. So dave what do you think?
OK,I've had the pan off a Fox body before.Loosen motor mounts and raise the engine as far as you can. Then you loosen the pan and drop the pump and pickup tube into the pan and wiggle it out of the chassis.I just wondered if the truck would work the same.
yes the same as a fox body. like i said i just did this last weekend on a 1994 idi f450 i drop the oil pump and pickup now i was able to take the pump outof the pan but i jacked the 5speed up to i put a gasket in not RTV
yes i had to jack the trans to get the pump and pickup out of the front of the motor then played with it up and down to remove the oil pan and install a new pan it was rusted and the rtv was leaking it suckedddd
