Steering Column replacement

I'm wanting to replace the steering column on my 85 ford f 250. The actuator rod is broke, the tilt column has had some play in it for some time, the blinkers don't lock into position ( I have to hold them down manually for the duration of turns) and I've been told that switching to a non tilt auto column would be best. That being said, I was wondering if it is a fairly straight forward removal and installation, or are there procedural issues that I would be better off being aware of??

I would go back with a tilt. There are plenty in good condition in the junkyards. We just swapped my dads over from straight to a tilt. It is no big deal to use either column.

How did you go about taking it out? Is it as simple as dropping the column, unplugging it, and removing the bolt that connects it to the steering shaft?
