Engine swap help

I have a 1986 F-150 with a 302EFI with and auto trans and it has seen better days, I would like to swap a 351W into the pickup. I was wondering if I could use a 351W out of a 90's model pickup in my old 86. I know that they were both computer controlled and I will also need that for the swap and parts of the harness are different. I did this swap in a 92 F-150 once and it went smooth and everything bolted up and the harness was just plug and play. If anyone has done this or has any thoughts it would be great.

It's not a terribly difficult swap, but it's not exactly plug and play either. The computer will be different. You would be best served using a computer from an 87-91 351. You'll need the engine wiring harness for the 351, which won't fit right in your truck because the computer and several relays are in a different locations. Or you can modify your 302 harness. Go to http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/ for pinout charts for different computers. The EGR control solenoid is different post-86 so you'll need that too. The vacuum harness is different, but its easier to mount the 90s EGR control solenoid in place of the 86 unit than it is to modify the location of all the solenoids to match the 90 vaccum setup. And the exhaust Y pipe will be different. Outside of all of the above its a piece of cake....
