Got a question on when to change the trans fluid/filter for a 01 Mazda B4000. My owners manual only states to "check" trans fluid level at specific times but Haynes manual states change fluid and filter every 24000 miles...which one is right?
According to the Ranger maintenance guide, automatic trans fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles and manuals at 120,000. You can get a maintenance guide from the Ford site here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenan...ls/default.asp
Change the fluid depending on your local conditions & the type of service the tanny has seen & the quality of the fluid & filter you have in it.
I choose to go by Fords "Severe Service" 30K miles call out for my 99 5R55E tranny, or sooner, depending on the service it's seen.
I've changed it as soon as 25K miles because of a good bit of towing & short trip city driving in hot weather.
Changing the auto tranny fluid & filter is good for the tranny.
Old oxidized tranny fluid will produce mischief causing sludge, gum & varnish deposits on the close tolerance tranny innards, so I also choose to do the full fluid pumpout routine, outlined in this forums "Tech Info" thread & tweaked a little to make it less messy for my tranny, here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...-pump-out.html
Some thoughts to ponder.
If you decide to do the pumpout, let us know how it goes.
