My first gear and reverse sound like a jet engine winding up for takeoff. It's not terribly loud, but noticeable. I have no idea of mileage on the trans or last fluid/filter change.
My C6 has had this same type of whining in low/reverse and even in nuetral/park for over 13 years. When I had it rebuilt, I mentioned it to the rebuilder. He said it was nothing to worry about after inspecting all the hard parts inside the trans.
Even during the test drive after the rebuild, he told me not to worry about it, as he was giving me a 5yr/75K warrentty on the transmission.
I believe he said it was from the planetary, but it's been 7 years ago, so my memory may not be correct. He said some of them "just do that", and a new one may start making the same noise in short order.
Rogue Wulff and others, Does your whining vary with engine speed? I've got a whine in my c-6 that does not vary at all with speed. It's a constant whine in every gear, neutral, and park. I don't know how long it has been there because I didn't pay any attention to it, thinking it was the power steering pump. Finally realized the sound didn't change when I turned the wheel and realized it was the tranny. The transmission works perfectly so I'm hesitant to tear into it if the sound is "normal." Thanks.
