the cats work in a pair so the fuel might not be igniting until it gets to the second stage catyou might also have a clogged cat and if you didn't good chance you do now

Not trying to disrespect anyones opinion but I have seen a vehicle with a clogged converter throw lean and rich codes and usually hesitate under a load just as a car would that needs a tune up really bad. As I said before get someone to hold the revs up around 2 grand or so while you check for a good exhaust flow. If you have a good steady flow the converter is not clogged. Im not saying thats the problem but its easy to check and will keep you out of the parts store as someone said. I am with the other guys on looking for a vacuum leak. I was a professional mechanic for about four years and worked on many of these trucks and vacuum leaks were common as were bad dpfe sensors. Also pvc elbows were bad on many fords. EGR ports inside the intake were also bad to stop up on many of the late nineties trucks and vans that had a lot of miles.
