Sounds far fetched but I have seen an air filter separate and cause this problem and the person did everything and all I did was pull the air filter and the cone had fallen off.
Well the code 401 is an EGR pressure code. The most common cause of this code is the egr pressure sensor is bad. If you go to the ford dealer to get it they will call it a DPFE. Forgot what that stands for but its the same part. The other two codes are lean codes which makes me believe you could have a significant vacuum leak somewhere. You may also want to get someone to get in and hold it at a constant rev around 2 grand and see if your exhaust has a good steady flow from the pipe if not you could have stopped up converter. Sometimes those lean codes can be a b**** to figure out but dont give up. Be sure to always check the simple stuff first. Let me know what you find out. Hope this helps.
BuBa, slow down or you will go broke buying parts you don't need.
You did not need fuel injectors.
You miss understood the codes when they said "lean".
The lean codes refer to the PCM progam tables set to their lean limit trying to correct a "TO RICH "condition and 'not" that the motor is running lean.
You must understand the system and what the codes mean before changing parts or you get deeply confused.
The 401 code is an EGR system code for a test that failed a flow test.
The 171/174 codes usually is an intake air leak due to a bad rubber hose.
Stay out of the parts store until you find the faults.
Check over the DPFE system and test the EGR for being blocked in the intake behind the EGR valve.
Takes some work and logic.
Good luck.
p0401 is an automatic dpfe especially if you have the old style ( silver box) also replace the 2 hoses going to it find the tube coming from your exhaust manifold to your egr there will be 2 hoses on that
the lean codes are most likely a vac leak, look at the pcv valve tube and the rubber elbow
well i messed around with it this afternoon and found that my driver side rear converter was glowing red would cause these egr codes and the other ones?????
the computer thinks that cylinder is running lean because of the extra o2 so it dumps more fuel into that bank the extra fuel is causing the cat to heat up
